Blog Repaired, Mind Your Passwords

Lesson learned: don’t use lame passwords on your sites. I had to learn the hard way and discovered my blog was hacked. The spammer loaded it full of hidden links to movie download sites. After cleaning up 70 posts by hand, you can bet I made sure the new password won’t be guessed by them again. And it will be changed regularly, too.

Reading “140 Characters”

Tomorrow I begin reading an innovative hybrid of ebook and iPhone app.

It’s “140 Characters” – a sort of how-to I am using as resource material for writing and research on a personal project that launches in early ‘10.

I’m looking forward to what seems like a regularly updated feed paired up with static content all built around the framework of a book.

And it’s a paid app to boot.

Like I said, interesting hybrid.download Care Bears: Journey to Joke-a-Lot Prey full movie

Elizabeth Warren on TARP and Rescues

I love watching and listening to Dr. Elizabeth Warren of Harvard University. Her opinions on how to fix what’s wrong current economic problems (credit card companies raising everyone’s interest rates to 30% for no good reason; banks paying themselves huge bonuses with taxpayer money through TARP funds) are spot on, plain spoken arguments that say what it seems no one else will say. She’s forceful, clear and hard to disagree with.

I first heard her on Fresh Air with Terry Gross a few years ago discussing how credit companies conceal the terms of your agreement with them to the point that no one understand what the terms mean.

Networking in Seattle for November 2009

I plan to start publishing a select list of Seattle networking events that are geared toward job seekers, marketers, social media types, and tech. Some of these I plan to attend, and you’re welcome to join. Let me know you’re coming and I’ll look for you.

I’ll publish them on my Google Calendar, which you can subscribe to for easy reference. I’ll tweet buy Schock them also. Hashtag triad is #Geoff #Seattle #networking

The point is to bring more people together, and to reduce the social anxiety of attending events where you may not know anyone.

I love networking, and networking with buddies makes it easier to meet more people.

Know of an upcoming event that I haven’t listed? Add it to the comments, and thanks for sharing.

Remember: Pay It Forward

Cleanr: A Cool New WordPress Theme

I love surfing for new visual candy, especially the kind that’s clean streamlined with joyous loads of white space. Here’s a tasty example:

Networks Too Big for Their Own Good – NYTimes.com

Interesting article with a great concluding sentence:

“…they may be overlooking extremely talented individuals whose only weakness is that they don’t have the right name to drop.”

This piquant statement expresses frustration that I felt along the way in my job search.

I have fixed this by networking a LOT, and uncovering many, many 2nd degree connections. I use those all the time to make introductions for others and myself as well.

Also, I now have great respect for the added “something special” that knowing a name brings to you – and knowing how to get introduced to that name.

My standard: Keep networking, keep talking to people, keep building relationships and don’t blindly accept invites unless you feel the person is someone you can help along the way.

Social Media in 30 Seconds

Omniture: Industry Insights » Blog Archive » Social Media in 30 Seconds

Omniture posted a nice slide with a breakdown of the domains of social media.

If social media confuses you, this does a great job of clarifying what each realm represents.
