Marketplace did a good, short piece on social networking and job searching this Monday, President&#8217;s Day.</p>
<p>Take 3 minutes to listen (or read the transcript in the link above) &#8211; and pay particular attention to the last section.</p>
<p>Companies are so deluged by resumes, they are beginning NOT to list their openings instead. Whereas they want a handful of good resumes, they are getting hundreds, and even thousands instead.</p>
<p>This means networking now connects you with listings that aren&#8217;t published at all.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s a related anecdote: A good friend in recruiting at a local hospital said they ran ad for medical researchers recently. They have one opening. They usually get 5 resumes. Instead, they got 45 &#8211; and several were overqualified.</p>
